About the Threshold Desk

Checked October 8, 2026By the Threshold Desk

Behind the Doors is written and signed under one collective name, the Threshold Desk, and no single writer's name appears on any page. This page explains why the guide exists and how its facts are checked.

Why the guide exists

For many readers, an evening out means more than a gaming floor. People plan around a show, a late dinner, a room for the night or a way in without going outside. The Threshold Desk writes Behind the Doors for that kind of planning.

Behind the eight doors of the Edmonton area, the rooms differ sharply. The Venue at River Cree holds up to 2,500 people. Century Mile Racetrack & Casino has a full one-mile racetrack. River Cree has 249 hotel rooms, Century Casino & Hotel Edmonton has 26, and Starlight reaches Fantasyland Hotel through West Edmonton Mall. Five have no hotel on site.

Six of the eight list food later than 11 pm on at least one night. The guide is not, in itself, a casino. The guide accepts no wagers, holds no accounts, runs no cashier and has no tie to any venue or operator.

How the desk checks

Each amenity comes from a casino's own website, an operator's annual report, a city or district directory or a news report. The Threshold Desk keeps every item with the page it came from and the date it was checked. Automated reading is blocked on some casino websites. Where that happened, the desk turned to an Internet Archive copy of the casino's own page and flagged this in its research notes.

Venue facts were checked on October 8, 2026, and casino and table-game hours again on October 9, 2026. When two official pages disagree, such as two seating figures for one show room, the figure is left out. Holiday hours fall outside this guide; confirm them on the site of each venue.

The guide does not rank casinos. It does not guess how busy a room is, say what is on stage on a given night, or give prices.

Where the pictures come from

Five pictures are generated by an image model from real venue photographs. River Cree Resort & Casino appears as its hotel tower and timber entrance canopy on a winter morning. Starlight Casino Edmonton gets the NOVA Bar under its dome, PURE Casino Yellowhead its empty showroom stage. Century Casino & Hotel Edmonton shows a guest room with two beds, Grand Villa Casino Edmonton the MATCH Eatery & Public House entrance.

In each, the camera barely moves, the light or time of day changes, and people and cars are gone. They are not photographs, and no caption repeats this. The snowy glass pedway and the bowl of noodles came from a written description alone and show no real place. Door posters with the map and week chart are drawn from the site's own data.

Two are real photographs under free licences, credited under each. The Century Mile grandstand across the racetrack is by Century.mile, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons.

Questions

Is the Threshold Desk a person?

The Threshold Desk is not a person but the collective name Behind the Doors is written and signed under. No page carries a personal byline, and the site has no named author.

Does the Threshold Desk work for a casino?

Behind the Doors stands on its own, with no tie to any operator or venue. Neither venues nor the province nor help services send any money to this site. On the home page there are paid links, every one marked Ad, leading to an online casino partner that pays a commission. Inner pages carry none.
